Timberline’s distinctive forests are in generally good health. However, invasive species are creeping in around the edges from neighboring yards. Without removal, our forests will become wastelands of ivy, yellow archangel, blackberry, holly and laurel. Only 5 species, when over 25 natives currently offer a wide diversity of food and shelter for birds and bugs. To protect the diversity of plants in our forests, the HOA board is undertaking a restoration project to remove the invasive plants and add more native species in their place.
The first step in this project is updating the forest management plan created in the 1990’s. The first step in THAT process is to evaluate the current status of the forests. So on Saturday July 2, there will be teams working in the forests to document plants, soil conditions, etc. If you used the trails last Saturday, you may have noticed us measuring and identifying plants. Hopefully, we’ll finish this weekend and then we’ll begin writing the management plan update.
With the new plan in hand, we will apply for grants so we can hire crews to help Timberline volunteers restore the forests.
Watch for news on our progress and how you can get involved.

My daughter’s Girl Scout Troop has decided to take over the Toys for Tots donation collection site at the entrance of Timberline – this is after talking to Dave Rowe and Bob Garrison about everything involved in this undertaking.
We have secured permission to be an official site from the US Marine Corps and plan to run it as has been done in the past – with signage, collection truck, carolers (done by the 4th grade girls of Troop #44170), etc. This will take place on December 5th from 3pm – 7pm.
This is a huge undertaking but my two co-leaders and I as well as our 17 girls are up to the challenge of providing toys for tots and carrying on this wonderful Timberline tradition. My husband and I do the lights and decorations at the front of Timberline for the holiday season and so we were planning to put up the big Toys for Tots sign up in the next week.
